Verbs that do not show physical movement... (think about what goes on INSIDE yourself). There are four categories:

EXISTENCE: be*, seem, appear*, consist of

SENSES: look*, sound*, smell*, taste*, touch, hear

EMOTIONAL STATES: like, want, prefer, love*, hate, fear

MENTAL STATES: feel, need, want, remember, prefer, think, believe, understand

POSSESSION: have*, own, possess, belong, owe

What you need to know: When using the above verbs in their non-action state, don't use them in a progressive form. NO: I'm loving these flowers! They're smelling wonderful. USE: I love these flowers! They smell wonderful.

*Non-action verbs that can be used to express a physical action. What do you think? / What are you thinking about?
